TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The participating dog may be mixed-breed or purebred.

You must have your dog’s Health Book with you, showing the Microchip number and recent mandatory vaccinations. This will be requested at the Secretary’s office.

Without the necessary vaccinations, such as for rabies, you will not be able to participate in the race. This will be checked at the Secretary’s office.

For races requiring a Pedigree Certificate, you must have the book to verify the BEK number.

It is advisable, 3-4 days before the event, to obtain the veterinarian’s consent.

The age of the dog must be over 12 months and, in special cases such as Bikejoring and Scooter, 18 months.

Dogs over 2 years old can participate in any distance (greater than those specified in the regulations).

Throughout the event – before, during, and after the race – the dog must be on a leash and the owner is fully responsible.

It is mandatory to use the recommended equipment (Harness, Belt, and Bungee Leash up to 2m, and for Bikejoring, Scooter, and Skijoring 2.8m).

In events held in collaboration with clubs, the regulations will coexist and be announced through the event.

The starting order will be announced before each race.

Participation in the FUN category is FREE. Participants must fill out the Race Form according to the race’s conduct.

SPECIAL ATTENTION ...

WHAT IS NOT ALLOWED...

Flexi-type leashes are not allowed.

Chokers are not allowed.

Electric collars are not allowed.

Halties are not allowed.

Leashes longer than 2m are not allowed.

Athletes under 7 years old are not allowed to participate.

Female dogs in heat, pregnant, or lactating are not allowed to participate.

Participation without the dog’s health book is not allowed.

If the dog cannot continue, the owner must immediately terminate the action.

An owner identified by the organizing committee dragging or carrying the dog will be excluded from the event.

Dogs showing aggression towards people or other dogs are not allowed to participate.

The above conditions will be stricter, especially in sports events that count towards qualification for the world championship.

DISTANCES

ACCORDING TO THE REGULATIONS OF THE I.C.F.

The events – races that take place according to the I.C.F. (International Canicross Federation) and are part of the World Championship are as follows:

Sprint Races or Short Distances:
The distance does not exceed 3 kilometers, with a minimum distance of 2 km.
The start is given per individual or in pairs with a 15 or 30-second interval.

Long-Distance Races:
The distance does not exceed 7 kilometers, with a minimum distance of 5 km..
The start is given per category, either collectively or in waves.

Relay Races:
Men’s or Women’s Teams of 3 athletes, aged 15 and above.
Mixed teams of 3 athletes can also participate without distinction.
The first athletes of each team start in their gender category. About 30 meters before the finish line, within the “relay zone,” they hand over their dog to an assistant and run to touch the hand of the second athlete of their team waiting inside the “relay zone,” and so on.
The route does not exceed 1.5 kilometers, with a minimum distance of 1 km.
The start is given collectively by gender category..

Distances are allowed to be slightly reduced if the temperature is above 20 degrees Celsius They will be further reduced if it exceeds 25 degrees. (Temperature is measured in the shade, one meter above the ground, one hour before the start).

In addition to the ICF-foreseen events and races, events of greater distances can also be organized.

ACCORDING TO THE PROVISIONS OF I.C.F.

CATEGORIES

Categories may be modified according to the number of participants.

According to the ICF regulations for the World Championship, the following apply to categories:
For entry into the age category, the year of birth is considered, not the birth date.
The weight of the dog is not taken into account.
A title is awarded if at least 3 athletes participate in the category, regardless of whether they all finish (due to non-starting (DNS), disqualification (DSQ), non-finishing (DSF).
In the case of fewer than 3 athletes running in their category, they may stand on the podium, but no official title is awarded. Thus, the categories are:

(SB) School Boys. Boys aged 7-10 years.
(YB) Young Boys. Boys aged 11-14 years.
(JM) Junior men. Boys aged 15-18 years.
(SM) Seniors Men. Men aged 19-39 years.
(MMi) Masters men i. Men aged 40-49 years.
(MMii) Masters men ii. Men aged 50-59 years.
(MMiii) Masters men iii. Men aged 60 and above

(SG) School Girls. Girls aged 7-10 years.
(YG) Young Girls. Girls aged 11-14 years.
(JW) Junior women. Girls aged 15-18 years.
(SW) Seniors women. women aged 19-39 years.
(MWi) Masters women i. Women aged 40-49 years
(MWii) Masters women ii. Women aged 50-59 years
(MWiii) Masters women iii. Women aged 70 and above.

SB (School Boys) & SG (School Girls):
The running distance is from 1.2 to 2.0 kilometers. They must always be accompanied by an adult throughout the course, tethered as well, with a leash longer than the one the child has. The adult should always be behind the child. Otherwise, there is a penalty of one minute and a Disqualification (DSQ) if repeated The role of the adult is to ensure the safety of the child and intervene only in case of a problem They are not allowed to encourage the child or the dog during the race; otherwise, they will be disqualified from the event.

YB (Young Boys) & YG (Young Girls):
The running distance is from 2 to 3 kilometers. They are allowed to be accompanied by an adult for the first 200 meters to assist with the start

In some event-specific cases, categories may be defined based on the weight of the dog. Introduction of Categories based on Dog Weight:

(DS) Small, with a weight less than 10kg.>
(DM) Medium, with a weight between 10-25kg.
(DL) Large, with a weight exceeding 25kg.

All the above are terms of the I.C.F. and are partially followed in Greece at the moment. The specific categories for each race can be found on the race page.
